Brehan Todd Design began
in Portland Oregon, in 2009. The company officially introduced itself to the
market, with a line of one of a kind, handmade jewelry. Based on a philosophy
of dedication to the environment and sophisticated design, Brehan Todd
continues to be noticed for a unique perspective within the design
community. Brehan Todd jewelry and
accessories are handmade in the studio outside of Portland. Her designs have
now become available worldwide, while maintaining sustainable business
practices, and helping to promote the eco-fashion movement. As a designer, her
mission is to live and work creatively, and sustainably. By using natural, reclaimed and vintage
materials, she is able to create high quality, contemporary design with little
need for the earth’s finite resources.
Brehan’s passion for both design and adventure
created a journey in search of things to make new. Vast arrays of mixed media, both precious and
non-precious, are carefully selected, draped on a dress form and manipulated,
to create each original interpretation of modern luxury. Intricate hardware, silk
ribbon, game pieces, and recycled bullet
casing charms are a few examples of the resources that become part of her
inspiration during the design process. Each line reflects Brehan’s vivid
imagination, fascination with nature, and stories told by cast off trinkets. This particular combination of vintage elegance, with an anti-conformist attitude, is unique to Brehan’s style.
History
Brehan’s passion for design began at a young age, with an
appreciation for art and design. She had the privilege of growing up in a
community that promoted local artists and personal creativity. She by began
making jewelry, sketching clothing and dancing in the local ballet, as a young
child. By 2002, these interests evolved into an education in New York City,
beginning at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her passion for design led
her to an early career in the fashion and accessories industry in New York,
while earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion design. Her private
collection of vintage and antique jewelry also became more refined, during
frequents to flea markets and antique fairs around New England. After
graduating, Brehan began developing an original line of sportswear and aprons
made from vintage materials, as well as a small line of jewelry. The company
started small, with a few pieces in one retail outlet , and has evolved to
include handmade work in specialty boutiques throughout the United States, and
worldwide, as well as on the World Wide Web.
